Do I have to Purchase Auto Insurance?
The state of North Carolina requires all licensed drivers to carry automobile liability insurance. The minimum required amounts of liability coverage are $30,000 per person, $60,000 per accident and $25,000 in property coverage.
Can I Purchase Additional Amounts of Liability Insurance?
Yes. We encourage you to purchase higher limits. Limits can be purchased up to $500,000 per person, $500,000 per accident along with $100,000 in property damage coverage. If you have a large amount of assets to protect, you may also want to consider a liability umbrella policy in addition to your auto insurance policy. Personal Umbrella policies can be purchased in amounts starting at one million and up to 10 million.
What Is Uninsured and Under-insured Coverage?
These coverage’s cover you in case you are
involved in an accident that was not your fault and the party at fault does not have insurance or not enough liability insurance coverage. If you only have the state minimum amount of liability
insurance, you will only be allowed to purchase
uninsured motorist coverage. Please note, if the at fault driver leaves the scene on the accident and you do not have their information, this coverage will not apply.
What is Comprehensive Coverage?
This provides coverage for a covered loss that is not due to a collision (or you hitting something). An example is a rock that hits and brakes your windshield. You would use this coverage to replace your windshield. Deductibles on this coverage range from $0 to $1000.
What is Collision Coverage?
Collision provides coverage for your auto, due to an accident that is your fault. Most lenders will require you to carry this coverage on your vehicle. Deductibles on this coverage range from $250 to $1000.
